“Eight Cousins” is a story written in 1875 by the author Louisa May Alcott. The story describes the life of Rose Campbell, a young girl who newly became an orphan and was delivered to live with her rich Bostonian family. There is no linear plot in the book, and in every chapter comes a description of a different situation in Rose’s new life. Thru every chapter Rose learns something new about herself and her surroundings. There is a stark differentiation in the story between “good choices” and “bad choices” and in every chapter there is an emphasis on  taking the “right” decision. Another main topic rises in the story is the fact that rose is the only girl in the family within the age group she is introduced to-all her cousins of her age are boys. A further main issue that rises in the book  is the socio-economic shift is Rose’s situation-she becomes part of the elite Bostonian society and thus has to decide what is the appropriate role she would like to have in this society.
